Crescent City, California - Beautiful and Unspoiled

Crescent City is a sleepy little city on California's Northern Coast, just south of the Oregon border. It is known for it's unspoiled beaches, Castle Rock, Tsunamis, Redwoods, and the Pelican Bay State Prison. It also happens to have some of the best fishing along the California Coast and better yet, there is a good chance that you'll only encounter a few other boats with their lines out. Some days, we are amazed that we have such a rich fishing area all to ourselves.

Whether you are a retiree looking for a certain species of Rockfish; a family looking for a beautiful, safe, and isolated place to fish; or a group of old college buddies looking for large fish worthy of writing home about, the Tally Ho II's experienced crew can help you find it.

Once the fishing is done, some of Northern California's most amazing natural beauty is at your doorstep. The rocky coastline is hands down one of the most spectacular convergences of ocean and land in the world and it can easily be enjoyed by all with ample parking and accessibility. Some parking lots are just a few hundred feet from the ocean and some of the tide pools that are in between. Other parking provide access to trails that lead to the vast Pelican Bay (which the prison is named after) and the rocky beaches and cliffs of Point St. George. On clear days, you can see the Point St. George Lighthouse, which is over six miles out in the Pacific at the end of a huge reef.

Location: Crescent City is located about 20 miles south of the Oregon border. To the south of Crescent City, 1,000 year old Redwoods confine a narrow strip of road called Highway 101. To the north is Point St. George and Pelican Bay - Brookings, Oregon and the mouth of the Smith River are at the northern most part of the bay. The Smith River is one of the largest rivers in California that is free to wander from source to the Pacific Ocean - there are no dams that impede its progress.

This is the main trail that leads from the parking lot to the Pacific. This leads to North Beach and Pelican Bay. Thousands of pieces of driftwood cover the upper parts of the beach at certain times of the year.
